How to Verify Your Google My Business Profile
Having a verified Google My Business profile can offer many advantages to the business owner. With a verified profile, you can add and edit public detailed information about your business, add/remove your business profile photos, publish posts on your business profile page and more!
In this blog we will go over several options to verify your Google My Business profile. If you don’t already have a business profile and are interested in signing up for one for your business, you can sign up for one here.
Not all businesses have the option to verify their profiles via email. Your business may qualify if you have a website for your business containing a contact email address on site for Google to use to send your verification email. If you do have the option, below are the steps to verify by email:
1. Go to the Google My Business dashboard and select the business profile you’d like to verify.
2. Select Email from the list of options.
3. Check your email inbox for the verification email.
4. Select the Verify button in the verification email or enter the verification code from the email in the Google My Business dashboard.
If you have a website for your business that is linked to your Google My Business profile, Google may use the phone number listed on your website to verify your profile. Below are the steps to verify by phone if you have this option:
1. Make sure you are available to answer your business phone directly for you to receive an automated call from Google.
2. Go to the Google My Business dashboard and select the business profile you’d like to verify.
3. Select Verify by Phone from the list of options.
4. Wait for the automated phone call from Google – you should receive this phone call within a few minutes. When you receive this call,
enter the verification code in the Google My Business dashboard that you receive from the message.
Google may send you a postcard containing a verification code to enter in the GMB dashboard. Below are the steps to verify your business through this option:
1. Go to the Google My Business dashboard and select the business profile you’d like to verify.
2. Select Mail from the list of options.
3. Confirm that your business address is correct. This is the address that the postcard will be sent to.
4. Select Send postcard.
5. Check your mail for the postcard. It should arrive within 10 business days. During this wait time, do not edit your business details as this
may impact your verification process.
6. When you receive your postcard containing the verification code, go to the Google My Business dashboard and select the business
you’d like to verify.
7. Select Verify location and enter the 5-digit verification code found on your postcard.
8. Submit your verification code.
If you’ve verified your website via the Google Search Console, you can verify your Google My Business profile instantly. You will need to add your website as a property in your Search Console account and following site instructions to prove you are the site owner. Once you’ve successfully added your website in your Search Console account, you will need to log into Google My Business with the same email address used to verify your website.
If you need more information on how to verify your website instantly through the Google Search Console, more information can be found here.
If you have more than 10 business locations that you’d like to verify in Google My Business, you can do so by verifying your individual user account or you location group (formerly known as a business account). In turn, eligible locations in your account that are not already claimed by another user will be verified.
In order to verify your account, you will need to do the following:
1. Sign into Google My Business and select Get verified next to one of your business locations.
2. Select Chain.
3. Complete the verification form as accurately as possible.
4. Submit the verification form.
It will take up to one week for your verification form to be processed. Google will contact you via email if there are any questions or issues with your verification application and will also send you a confirmation email once your account is verified in bulk.
If you still need more information, additional documentation on this method can be found on the Google My Business Help Center.
With these various methods you can verify your Google My Business business profile. Once you have a verified profile you can take advantage of the various features available to promote your business. We will go into these features in a future blog coming soon.
