The Importance of Adding New Photos in Google My Business
In a previous blog post we talked about the steps to verify your Google My Business (GMB) profile. Completing this step and having a verified profile gives you control over the photos you have on your profile page and allows you to add/remove photos and add descriptions to each of your photos. In this blog we’ll go over the importance of keeping your GMB profile current with updated photos.
Your photos in your GMB account are a great way to highlight your services and product offerings. They may show up in the Google search results page when users in your area search for the types of goods and services you offer. However, what many businesses may not realize is that Google will favor images that have more recently been uploaded. The newer your photos are, the more likely your profile photos will appear to users.
Below is an image of the photo view statistics of a local beauty salon business (outlined in the blue line). This business claimed their GMB profile at the beginning of April and started adding new photos at this time. Note the spikes in views of this business’s profile photos from April through May – these were dates when new photos were added to the GMB profile:
The red line in the chart above indicates profile photo views of competitor businesses. The goal in the long term is to regularly and consistently add new profile images (and videos! If your vertical, like beauty services, supports it) so that they appear more often than those of competitors.
We can’t stress enough the importance of having up-to-date photos in your Google My Business profile. Photos are a highly visible way of showcasing your business offerings and newly-added photos also increase your visibility on the Google search results page. In a later blog, we’ll go over other methods to gain more exposure for your GMB profile.
