Creative Specifications – Simplifying Your Creative Needs

When you first begin to advertise across the internet, whether it’s Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, Yahoo Gemini, Twitter, or even AdRoll there is always the question of creative. In this blog I’ve created a repository of creative specifications across all of the major advertising platforms so you can begin advertising as soon as possible!

For the majority of platforms an image with a 1.19:1 ratio and a 1:1 (square) ratio will be enough to go “live.” However, I’ll go over a more detailed look at creative by platform below:

Google Creative Specs

Responsive ads:

  • A landscape image that is a 1.19:1 ratio and at least 600 x 314. The file cannot be any larger than 5MB.
  • A square image (1:1 ratio) at least 300 x 300. The file cannot be any larger than 5MB.
  • A short headline (25 characters max) which is required.
  • A long headline (90 characters max) which is required.
  • A description (90 characters max) which is required.

Image ads:

    • The format of the file can be either GIF, PNG, or JPG with a max size of 150KB.
    • There may not be any text within the images.
    • Common desktop image ad sizes are:
      • 250 x 250
      • 200 x 200
      • 468 x 60
      • 728 x 90
      • 300 x 250
      • 336 x 280
      • 120 x 600
      • 160 x 600
      • 300 x 600
      • 970 x 90

Common mobile image ad sizes are:

    • 320 x 50
    • 200 x 200
    • 250 x 250
    • 300 x 250
    • 320 x 100

Facebook Creative Specs

For all Facebook images you must not have more than 20% of text in your images.

Image ads:

  • The image ratio must be between 9:16 & 16:9 with a recommended resolution of at least 1,080 x 1,080 px.
  • The file can be either a JPG or PNG.
  • A headline, any more than 25 characters may be truncated.
  • Text, any more than 125 characters may be truncated.
  • A link description, any more than 30 characters may be truncated.

Facebook, LinkedIn, and Messenger Stories:

  • Images will appear in a 1080 x 1420 space.
  • The file can be either a JPG or PNG.
  • Consider saving 250 pixels at the top and bottom of the image to avoid covering up your text and CTA elements of the ad.

LinkedIn Creative Specs

Sponsored content images:

  • The image must be a ratio of 1.91:1 and at least 400 pixels wide.
  • The image can be either a JPG or PNG.
  • The text will be truncated after 150 characters, less characters for mobile devices.

Dynamic ads:

  • The headline cannot be more than 50 characters.
  • The description cannot be more than 70 characters.
  • The company name cannot be more than 25 characters.
  • The call-to-action cannot be more than 18 characters.
  • The logo must be a 1:1 ratio and at least 100 x 100 pixels.

Text ads:

  • The headline cannot be more than 25 characters.
  • The description cannot be more than 75 characters.
  • An optional company logo is available to be added and must be a 1:1 ratio and at least 100 x 100 pixels.

 Yahoo Gemini Native Creative Specs

  • The image file may be a GIF, JPG, or PNG.
  • The large image must be at least 1200 x 627 and may not be larger than 2 MB.
  • The basic image must be at least 627 x 627 (1:1) and may not be larger than 2 MB.
  • The title can be between 20 – 50 characters.
  • The description can be between 20 – 150 characters.

Twitter Creative Specs

Plain text Tweet:

  • You are allowed 280 characters per Tweet.
  • Note that if you user a link that will take up 24 characters leaving you with 256 characters for your ad copy.

Image website card:

  • Images files can be either PNG or JPG.
  • A landscape image that is a 1.19:1 ratio and at least 800 X 418. The file cannot be any larger than 3MB.
  • A square image (1:1 ratio) at least 800 x 800. The file cannot be any larger than 3MB.
  • The tweet copy cannot be more than 280 characters long.

AdRoll Creative Specs

  • All AdRoll Images must have the company logo in it.
  • Images can be either a GIF, JPG, or PNG.
    • GIF’s cannot endlessly loop. They may only be 30 seconds long.
  • Most common image sizes:
    • Medium Rectangle – 300 x 250
    • Leaderboard – 728 x 90
    • Wide Skyscraper – 160 x 600
    • Large Rectangle – 300 x 600
    • Mobile Leaderboard – 320 x 50
    • Billboard – 970 x 250
    • Native – 600 x 500, 600 x 600, or 600 x 315
